LEARN MORE

You CAN earn your living with yoga therapy.

We will show you how.

As the first accredited Yoga Therapy training in the Bay Area, Stress Management Center’s premier training program is led by yoga therapy experts with decades of experience to prepare you for a professional career. In our open approach, all aspects of yoga are taught, from the physical to the philosophical. There will be classes on self inquiry, professional ethics, the running of a yoga business, western medical approaches and building relationships with the healthcare community.

The curriculum covers classical asana, pranayama, meditation and Ayurveda first, and then focuses on applying and modifying these tools to meet clients' needs. We will study tools from diverse methodologies, including: Hatha, Viniyoga, InnerBody Yoga, Swaroopa Yoga and Ayurveda. We will include special teachings from Rama Jyoti Vernon's work with BKS Iyengar and her decades of experience with the Yoga Sutras, as well as Nischala Devi's work with Dr. Dean Ornish developing Yoga of the Heart™.

IAYT ACCREDITED 800 HOUR TRAINING

Level 1

Begin your path toward becoming a yoga therapist with Level 1 of our International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT)–accredited 800-hour program. This foundational training is designed for dedicated yoga teachers ready to deepen their knowledge, refine their teaching, and expand into therapeutic applications of yoga.

Through an integrative and experiential curriculum, students explore the anatomy of asana, the wisdom of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and the principles of Ayurveda. You’ll develop practical skills in pranayama, meditation, and therapeutic teaching, while gaining essential tools for working one-on-one with clients. The program also emphasizes professional practice and ethics, preparing you to step into the role of a yoga therapist with confidence and integrity.

Prerequisites: A 200-hour yoga teacher training (or equivalent), plus at least one year of teaching experience and one year of personal practice.

This training offers a supportive, rigorous environment to grow your skills, deepen your understanding, and begin transforming lives—starting with your own.

Level 2

STARTS OCTOBER 17, 2026!

Level 2 deepens your journey in the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT)–accredited 800-hour program, building on the strong foundation established in Level 1. This advanced training is designed to refine your clinical skills, expand your therapeutic toolkit, and support your evolution as a confident, effective yoga therapist.

Students dive into advanced asana, the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, and the application of pranayama and meditation for individualized care. The curriculum also explores practical Ayurveda, holistic therapies for specific populations, and research literacy to support evidence-informed practice. With additional focus on the business of yoga and professional ethics, this level prepares you to bring your work into the world with clarity and purpose.

Prerequisites: Completion of Level 1 at SMC, or completion of a bridge program if transferring from another IAYT-accredited training.

Level 2 offers an immersive, supportive environment to deepen your expertise, expand your impact, and step more fully into your role as a yoga therapist.

Mentored Practicum

The final stage of the IAYT–accredited training, this 150-hour mentored practicum is what sets the program apart. Through one-on-one guidance, your mentor supports you in working through client cases, refining your business plan, and growing both personally and professionally.

This highly individualized experience ensures you graduate with the confidence, skills, and real-world foundation to launch your yoga therapy practice.
